An exhibition celebrating diversity, care, and inclusion within medical spaces.

The sponge isn't always the same. Some cakes rise high, some sink in the middle. If you give everyone the same amount of icing, some slices stay dry while others overflow. By adding more where it's needed, less where it's not- every piece gets the sweetness it deserves. That's the difference between equality and equity. Not same for all, but enough for each. In Good Hands

We often speak of healing through skill and precision… yet the body sometimes responds most deeply to simple human touch and care. The trust of being seen can be just as restorative as any treatment for the heart. Y.H.K. 2025 Cleveland Clinic

Each brain moves to its own rhythm and sees its own hues. No one can truly say we share the same shade of blue or sense the same fragrance. Neuro Garden is created to visualize the differences neurodiverse individuals experience, seeing these unseen variations as natural expressions of being human. What is “normal” is simply what blooms within each mind… and every perception is valid. Y.H.K. 2025 Cleveland Clinic

The ache of being alive, the beauty and confusion of feeling and being different in a world that moves so fast. This work reflects the quiet, human journey of finding tenderness amid the mess of life, and within one another. Y.H.K. 2025 Cleveland Clinic

In many medical spaces today, even the word DEI faces censorship. The Braille quietly reads, “You Belong.”

Rokurokkubi, one of my favorite yokai from Japanese folklore, is a woman with an impossibly long neck. In this comical piece, she appears as a housewife with blackened teeth (ohaguro), a mark of elegance and devotion for wives in old Japan. Created for the DEI-themed “In Good Hands” series at the Cleveland Clinic, this work revisits parts of my culture as a form of self-acceptance and healing...pieces I once tucked away while trying to blend into another culture as a teen. In clinical trial settings, visibility and value are often unevenly distributed. In this root-vegetable scene, not all are offered the same treatment or attention. The smooth, pale daikon is often chosen first… while burdock, taro, and jicama remain in the shadows, still waiting, still overlooked, still turnips. Y.H.K. 2025

"atmosphere," 2024
An Interstellar-inspired mini series of astronauts and children drifting through the cold, desert-like universe, discovering in the end that love is the only thing that truly matters.

Inspired by the film Interstellar (2013), this series blends the cold expanse of the sea with the stark isolation of the desert, landscapes I have always found strangely comforting. Healing differs for everyone, and for some it appears only through the self-reflection that becomes possible in true solitude. In that isolation, one question rises: what do we long for? I believe everything ultimately returns to a single answer, love. "Atmosphere" 2024 Y.H.K

"vibe," san francisco, 2024
Candy-colored city with bright color meant to bring a little lift and a sense of hope. The wold is always expanding; I keep adding small details and new citizens as the playful series evolves.

Vibe is the first series in my digital art practice and began as an experiment in building a repeatable system that could exist anywhere the data traveled. Digital tools offered clean lines, vivid color, and the capacity to populate the work with an expanding set of characters. The series continues to grow and represents a direct form of healing, where playful distortions of perspective are intended to lift the viewer’s mood. "Vibe" 2024 YHK

from "chesana odisan (little uncles)" 2023
Born in grandma's garden during lockdown, Chesana Odisan (little uncles), are whimsical imaginary creatures. The series is a small dose of healing, carried through kindness humor, and light during an uncertain time.

Chesana Odisan (little uncle) focuses on the therapeutic potential of unconditional warmth and stable, benevolent behavior. The characters were conceived during lockdown while I sketched in my grandmother’s garden and pictured cheerful, nurturing beings living in a quiet mushroom village. Their reliable friendliness and nonthreatening presence offer a visual representation of safety that can ease trauma responses. "Chesana Mori No Tea Party" 2023 YHK

Neo-anime mixed-media illustrations
exploring the quiet healing of nostalgia, soft melancholy, and wabi-sabi.

Urban Solitude explores how gentle melancholy can support healing. By observing familiar streets as they change, the series uses wabi-sabi ideas to show loss as a natural process. This calm form of sadness helps people recognize what mattered and find steadiness. Softly lit windows hint at life continuing beyond view. Each work is hand drawn, digitally finished, and printed on translucent backlit film to create a reflective atmosphere. "Urban solitude" 2022 YHK
